Lavender Days
"Under a lavender sky we lie
Do you, do you remember the day?"
- Ray LaMontagne, 'Lavender'
Yesterday we walked through a field of lavender, just before a summer rainstorm. The downpour lasted precisely 15 minutes and the muskiness of rain combined with sweet lavender notes in an alchemy of seasonal magic. And I have to say, I don’t think I’ve encountered such an intoxicating scent before – heady and floral, yet earthy and sweet. Oh, how my heart wishes I could bottle it! A souvenir of a summer day that I could revisit in the cold of winter. Much like this sweet season in motherhood. For now, the lavender at my bedside will have to do – and maybe a teaspoon of lavender simple syrup in my tea.
